Peel Police Shooting in Mississauga: One Man Dead, Three Arrested as SIU Investigates Police-Involved Shooting

A police-involved shooting in Mississauga has left one man dead and three others in custody, prompting an investigation by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The incident occurred shortly after 12:22 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, near the intersection of Council Ring Road and The Collegeway, close to Winston Churchill Boulevard. According to authorities, police officers were in the area conducting an investigation when the shooting took place.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where one adult male was found suffering from life-threatening gunshot injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed that three individuals were taken into custody at the scene. Authorities also stated that there are no outstanding suspects and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety related to the incident.

A second adult male was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. In addition, a Toronto police officer sustained minor injuries in a collision connected to the incident and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Officials have not released further information regarding the circumstances of the collision or how it was related to the police investigation.

A significant police presence remained in the neighborhood throughout the morning as investigators secured the area and collected evidence. Several nearby roads were closed for hours while the scene was processed, and motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

As is standard procedure in cases involving police-related fatalities, Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and assumed responsibility for investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. SIU investigators are expected to examine forensic evidence, review available video footage, interview witnesses, and determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal encounter.
